Montrose rugby club restarted on Sunday 9th August under the “new” rules following SRU guidance.
Our COVID committee & safety officer, volunteers & coaches worked with all the new guidelines. As a result, this has allowed us to return to rugby on what would have been our normal restarting date after the summer break.
Montrose rugby club has a new one-way entry/exit system, plus our main pitch set out in “bubbles” for all ages to play. We had a “dry” run of how this would work & videoed it for the returning players. We believe this is something that we have felt worked well & perhaps helped allay any fear of coming back.
Montrose rugby club currently have 3 mini rugby bubbles, 4 junior rugby bubbles & a senior bubble all back training on a Sunday morning & afternoon. As a result of the pandemic, we have staggered start times. This ensures social distancing can be maintained along with hand sanitising, temperature checks & washing of all the rugby balls after use! Also using the Sports-Train app has helped greatly with the check-in & out procedures plus the essential track & trace information.
Going forward we hope to introduce our mid week training session, which would run on the same format as we have introduced for the Sunday.
Montrose rugby club are delighted that so many of our players have returned to play with us at union park. This means we are confident we can hopefully adapt to this new way of rugby playing & look forward to introducing more traditional rugby in due course.
