Edinburgh Rugby Woman’s Team showing us all how it’s done

This weekend (Saturday 17th February) Edinburgh Woman’s Team will play the first of 2 playoff matches to determine the winner of the Celtic Challenge. Finishing in the top 3 has allowed them to be in the running for the trophy which is testament to the hard work and dedication our ladies have shown to the blue and orange they represent.

When our ladies squad was first announced I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who wondered how they would fare. With having nothing really to indicate what level we were at compared to the teams from Ireland and Wales it was exciting to see where we would stand.

After an encouraging start against Glasgow our ladies faced the Wolfhounds at the Hive. Unfortunately, a number of errors lead to a defeat by the Wolfhounds but our ladies were undeterred and went on to beat Brython Thunder and Gwalia Lightning away from home. Our final league match was against the Clovers at the Hive and our victory led to finishing second in the league and entering the playoffs to decide the overall winner. We now face the Wolfhounds and the Clovers again.

I have no doubt the team is fired up and ready to take on the Wolfhounds again and correct the errors which were made the first time the teams played each other, having got a few more games under their belt and some more consistency within the squad I believe in them.

So, if you can get along on Saturday to cheer on the ladies and let’s give them the boost, they all deserve.
